More than that
More than that More than that With the Holy Spirit poured into me The rejoicing bubbles up, spills over, Flows perpetually. But how could it ever be enough? So much distance So much devastation So much debt But not too far for Your immeasurable love Not so broken beyond Your healing mercy Not too poor for Your abundant grace. So there it is. An excess of rejoicing Because YOU ARE MORE. (Read Romans 5)

Disappointment walked into a bar.
Only the offerings on the highest shelf would do. But mediocre methanol and lackluster libation Left her living up to her name. Disappointment. Ridiculous wrestled with Reasonable. The victor unclear yet both visibly bruised. Pulling no punches and reputation at stake Feelings conquer thoughts. Ridiculous. Impossible waltzed down the promenade. Arrogantly assuming others bow to her whims. But exquisite taste and dignified style Found flaws all around. Impossible. And yet. Hope never lofty enough. Faith never foolish enough. Creativity never imaginative enough. For the Ultimate Standard. What if expectations have not been wrong Simply misplaced and poorly assigned all along? What if in seeking their meeting, we encountered a Standard far exceeding? Why then we would experience relief. And while He is the Standard to which we could not live up, His also is the fully-drunk Provision in a once-wrathful cup. So now free from finding flaws in the finite, I bask in His eternally glorious and magnificent light. Expectations surpassed. Powerful words.
Untrue ones, but mighty nonetheless. Persuading me towards isolation even when it is not forced upon me, Convincing me to filter feelings through fear despite the safe space around me. Holding back, clamming up, shutting down, hiding out. Joining hands with the insecurities and devaluations of true identity. Inward gaze cannot alleviate, bolster or comfort. Upward stare. At Him compelled to look. Persuading me towards intimacy through the One Who died for me, Convincing me to dwell on the Source of Love, remaining steadfast for me. Fully secure, completely safe, entirely known, wholly loved. Imaging more clearly the God Who desires to be known. Convicting revelation promotes abiding, belief, and change. Unknown overthrown. Now Known enthroned. |
